Indie royalty Mac DeMarco and Shamir are bookending summer 2015 with their respective records. Shamir’s debut full-length debut, Ratchet (XL), released May 19, kick-started the summer party with house-infused dancefloor jams (see here), and Mac’s upcoming mini-LP, Another One (Captured Tracks), will round out the sizzling season when it drops Aug. 7. The two recently hung out on a Brooklyn rooftop together, eating popcorn, drinking beers, and playing Jenga during a chill summer evening. Mac is known for being indie rock’s resident weirdo, and newcomer Shamir Bailey—a longtime fan of Mac’s—is its “post-gender” icon. Get the two together, and it’s an unfiltered, hilarious stream of consciousness. Watch the first of our three-part video series, in which Mac and Shamir discuss popping their cigarette cherries, meeting each other for the first time, and the pet peeves that drive them up a wall.
